“Take our picture and please make sure you post it so my mom can see it. She’ll be so happy!”
The words of a thirteen year old boy.
He was surrounded by friends, engaged in a thrilling game and he wanted to stop to make sure his mom could be a part of it too.
What thirteen year old boy is that thoughtful?
I was impressed. Daily.
Thank you for doing the thing
It’s easier to give in.
Parenting is hard.
You’re doing great!
The ripple effect is noticeable.
One act of thoughtfulness spreads into two then three.
Suddenly, boys are planning birthday surprises or making sure the lefty on the other team has a softball glove.
You laid the groundwork, let camp help
I’ve seen staff spend an incredible amount of time encouraging a boy to try again and again until he was finally able to get the ball over the net.
I’ve seen an older boy jump up and pluck a frisbee out of the air just to land and hand it to one of the younger boys in the crowd.
I’ve seen campers that have been part of our traditions for years, put their arms around new boys and teach them the ins and outs whether on opposing teams or not.
Camp gives boys the opportunity to learn from one another in a way that can not be replicated at their age.
You gave them a strong moral foundation, allow them to build upon that character at camp.
We’re here to help!
And with that, the Spirit of the House will never die,
