A “Day in the Life” visit for future campers & their families
Give your son a real taste of West End House Camp in action. From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, he will join the day alongside an older camper buddy, play, explore, eat with a cabin, and experience the kind of community that makes West End feel special.
While he is out living the day, you will get time with our team, a tour of camp, and a closer look at what makes this place more than just a summer program.

What makes Rookie Days Special
This is not “Just a Tour”
Your son will be paired with a Big Brother for the Day, usually an older junior camper who knows the ropes and can help him feel comfortable from the start.
He will spend the day doing what campers actually do:
- compete on a sports league team alongside their Big Brother
- attending an elective activity (STEM, Archery, etc)
- sit with a cabin group and eat lunch in the mess hall
- heading back with the group for rest period
- spending time at the waterfront (life jackets)
- winding down with free time in the afternoon
Visiting gives boys a chance to picture themselves at camp in a way a brochure never can.
The best way to understand West End is to spend a day here.
Rookie Days are designed for boys who want to see what camp really feels like before summer begins.
- Your son will be assigned a “Big Brother” for the day and join the rhythm of camp as it actually happens.
- Parents will get the chance to tour, ask questions, meet directors, and decide whether West End feels like the right fit for your family.
West End is a place where boys are known, included, and challenged in good ways.
We believe boys grow through shared experience. Team sports. Cabin life. Time outside. Daily routines that build confidence. Older campers who help younger ones settle in. Staff who care enough to notice when a boy is finding his footing, and when he needs a hand.
Rookie Days are built to let your family experience that directly.
For parents
You are welcome to be as involved as you would like.
The day begins with coffee, snacks, and introductions. Once boys head off with their big brothers for the day, parents will tour camp and spend time with our directors in a Q and A session.
After that, you can choose what works best for you.
You may:
stay and watch camp in action
join our admin team for lunch outside
spend some time in Cornish, Portsmouth, or nearby areas
come back for pickup at the end of the day
Some families want to observe every part of the experience. Others enjoy the chance to step away for a few hours while their son settles in. Either is fine.
